World Food Programme (WFP) was started in 1986 with
the assistance of World Food Programme International.
Such
a programme
is ensuring food security of the labourers
working in remote forest
areas Under this programme food grains like rice and pulses are given to the forest
labourers at subsidized rate fixed
by State Level Coordination Committee and the price so fixed is
deducted from the wages and kept as a Welfare Fund. For each day’s
work one ration comprising 2.5kg rice and 200gms of pulses are given
per 6
days in a week. For one
ration Rs.9/- are deducted from wage amount. The welfare fund is
again spent on welfare works for forest labourers like health camp,
sinking of tube wells, water bodies, creation of warehousing
structures, forestry, development of villages etc.
